Sensex sheds early gains; Sun Pharma, Bharti Airtel up


NEW DELHI: The Sensex opened over 200 points higher on Friday but pared most of its early gains, mirroring its Asian peers after US stocks fell overnight ahead of a key job report

At 9:35 a.m., the 30-share BSE index was up 0.4 per cent at 16,748.77 points, with 19 of its components rise.


The broader 50-share NSE index was trading 0.3 per cent higher at 5,016.90 points.

Top Sensex gainers include: BHarti Airtel Ltd (up 1.9%), Reliance Industries Ltd (up 1.8%) and Sun Pharma (up 1.6%).

"The trend deciding level for the day is 16,612 on Sensex and 4,982 levels on the Nifty. If Nifty trades above this level during the first half-an-hour of trade then we may witness a further rally up to 16,780 - 16,883 / 5,036 - 5,070 levels", according to a report by Angel Broking.

"However, if Nifty trades below 16,612 / 4,982 levels levels for the first half-an-hour of trade then it may correct up to 16,509 - 16,340 / 4,947 - 4,893 levels," said the report.

Maruti Suzuki Ltd trading 1.5% lower at Rs 1,075 after the country's largest car maker said that it may start operations at the Manesar facility within two days. Also, Maruti Suzuki reported 12.74 per cent fall in sales for August to 91,442 units due to the ongoing labour unrest at its Manesar plant that affected production.
