India's manufacturing growth hits 29-month low

NEW DELHI — India's factory output growth skidded to a 29-month low in August, a widely watched survey showed on Friday, hit by a string of interest rate hikes and a plunge in export orders.

The HSBC India Manufacturing PMI, or purchasing managers' index, fell for a fourth straight month to 52.6, a shade below the previous low of 53.2 registered during the global financial crisis in April 2009.

Tripoli, Libya -- A U.N. team was on the ground in Libya to re-establish the organization's presence there amid dire water, food and fuel shortages, the United Nations said Friday.

The U.N. humanitarian coordinator for Libya, Panos Moumtzis, arrived in Tripoli with a team of U.N. officials who hope to assess and address problems with food and water in the war-torn country.

August Box Office Rises and Falls of Hollywood

Despite a plague of pathetic new releases over the past two weeks, August 2011 ended up ahead of August 2010 in terms of gross. The month came in at $894 million, which was up two percent over last August. 

August 2011 ranked as the fourth highest-grossing August of all time, behind 2007, 2009 and 2003. However, it saw the steepest July-to-August drop on record, as business was off 36 percent from July's $1.4 billion haul.
