Mismanagement on the part of its officials spoiled Delhi government's otherwise generous intentions to put monetary balm on the wounds of the affected persons in Wednesday's Delhi High Court blast.
A number of persons refused to accept the money, claiming that they were not being given compensation according to the degree of damage they had suffered. Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit had announced a compensation 4 lakh to the next of kin those killed in the blast, Rs.2 lakh to those who suffered permanent incapacitation, Rs. 1 lakh to persons with major injuries andRs. 10,000 for minor wounds.
Ratan, whose son Nitin was admitted to the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) hospital after suffering severe limb injuries, got furious when the officials offered him a cheque for Rs.10,000.
Nitin had undergone a surgery and is due for another shortly. "How could these officials dismiss my son's pain minor injuries'," he said.
Similarly, Tarun Yadav (29) Manohar Singh, who also suffered splinter injuries and had been operated upon, were given Rs.10,000.
However, not everybody is complaining. Rajesh Aggarwal (30), who suffered multiple fractures got Rs. 1 lakh and was discharged on Friday itself.
The state government's list has been collated from various hospitals; Ganga Ram (5 minor injuries), RML (4 incapacitated, 19 serious, 10 minor), AIIMS (1 major, 1 minor), Moolchand Hospital major) and Safdarjung Hospital (3 major, 1 minor).
