Nokia's Program: Thwarting Diabetes Via SMS

Arogya World, a USA-based non-profit organization concentrating on healthy living, has made announcement about the launching of a novel service, which is designed to help raise awareness about diabetes in the country.

This service utilizes Nokia Life Tools, which permits SMS based messages to be delivered straightly to subscribers' cellular phones, creating awareness about diabetes, which is expected to take lives of a million people in 2011.

With the help of this service, subscribers are made conscious about the techniques that diabetes can be avoided.

The messages sent via this service are made primarily for individuals in the country, by health specialists based in India, the United Kingdom and the United States of America, for both diabetics as well as non-diabetic patients.

Non diabetics are also included in this as it is thought that diabetes is largely avoidable and in 80% of cases it can be totally invalidated in addition.

Global head of Nokia Life Tools, Jawahar Kanjilal, stated, "Mobile phones are ushering in an information revolution in the daily lives of millions, especially in emerging markets. Delivering targeted diabetes prevention messages to a profiled audience using our Nokia Life Tools platform, in a sustained and continuous engagement will, we believe, encourage people to adopt a healthier lifestyle."

The said service will be provided for free to the first million users in the sub-continent who have Nokia Life Tools on their cellular phones and accessed Health Channel.

No added download or payment will be required to subscribe to this service.

The text suggestion will be obtainable across the country in 12 different local languages between November this year until October 2013 or till the time 1-million Indian users have been achieved through the service.
